Kansas - Point of Know Return Live & Beyond album cover

At a time when concerts are surrounded by a lot of uncertainty with a lot of cancellations and postponements due to COVID-19, KANSAS' two-disc live album "Point of Know Return Live & Beyond" is as close as it gets to a live show for some classic rock fans. Even though more concerts have been happening in recent months, not everyone who is a music fan feels comfortable getting out in crowds or is able to, so this is the next best thing. "Cold Grey Morning" is a triumphant opening song for the live album and it's packed with a ton of energy and impressive violin playing from David Ragsdale.

I don't think there's a bad thing one can say about KANSAS - they're one of the biggest and best classic rock bands out there and even if the music isn't your cup of tea, the talent and influence is undeniable. All of the instrumentation and vocals are impeccable throughout this live album and one could hardly differentiate it from a studio recording. The guitar and violin section at about 3:37 in "Two Cents Worth" is one of the most fun parts of a song, especially when the keyboards get thrown into the mix. Zak Ritzvi and Richard Williams do not hold back on their impressive guitar skills, and this can especially be heard at the beginning of "The Wall."

Even those who aren't necessarily fans of classic rock or KANSAS most likely know the songs "Dust in the Wind"and "Carry on Wayward Son," which are both on the second CD and performed so magically well. Fans of the band or fans of just those songs would not be disappointed. The beginning of "Carry on Wayward Son" is particularly awesome as someone who doesn't always dabble in classic rock. There are not many people who don't know this song and it's very fun to hear a live version, having never seen the band live. It's also very cool to hear the crowd singing along to it in the recording. This two-disc live album gives fans plenty of great KANSAS songs with purposeful and sensible order in the set list to help those who may be having live music withdrawals. The quality of production could really make you feel like you're there in the front row with the right sound system. Their musical ability is truly beautiful and shines throughout this album.
