Kalmah - They Will Return album cover

I doubt that any of you would not know Kalmah and their exquisite Melodic Death Metal. If this is the case though I feel obliged to share my knowledge of their history and their great musicianship.
Kalmah have originally teamed up in 1992 when Pekka Kokko (vocals & bass), Anssi Seppanen(guitar) and Petri Sankala (drums) founded Ancestor. In 1999 their first mini/demo cd came out and was followed by their first album called Swamplord, in 2000.  In 2002 and after some line-up changes Kalmah are hear to pound us with their furious riffs, their powerful melody and their heavy drumming (and I mean that!). Their new album is titled They will return (and what a return they did!)
They are here with just their second album and their musical skills seem to have tripled since their previous album. The composition of their music is entwined with each of the guitars, keyboards and drums trying to draw you by themselves to their rhythm and suddenly passing you over to the next instrument and on and on. The music as a whole is very well constructed with a sound and composition maturity that sends chills up and down your spine. The creativity of the composer of the songs cannot be denying by any. The music is full of power and melody and at the same time fresh. Meaning that it trends to a road that many bands have walked before but can not be compared to any apart the general aspect of death music.
The vocals are more brutal and heavier than those of Swamplord and the structure of the band as a whole is better than ever, in their small, but nonetheless fast paced history as a band. On to the album then...
...Which opens with Hollowheart a song that has the aforementioned flawless perplexing composition. Swamphell is a pounding hell with the drums being the base of the mayhem that is delivered. Human Fates opens with a melancholic rhythm and is one of the song that keeps the slower pace in the album. They Will Return is THE song of the album with the keyboards holding the melody and the guitars and drums giving a performance within a performance. Also what can I say about The Blind Leader? This song IS speed incarnated in music. The album closes with a Megadeth cover, Skin Of My Teeth, and the yearning to listen to the whole album once again starts! (I had to stop myself on the third time cause I had an article to write.)
Kalmah are my personal favourite and one of the most promising bands in the scene. I sure hope that in the future will keep their great course.
