Age of the UFOnaut
Jupiter Cyclops
Bands can be born from other bands’ ashes, and it’s nothing new at all, it happened a lot (one good example is MERCYFUL FATE, that ended after the departure of King Diamond from the band in the late days of April of 1985; and from it was born KING DIAMOND). And from the remains of a cover band was born JUPITER CYCLOPS, a North American quartet that here is with its first release, the full-length “Age of UFOnaut”. The band could be easily labeled as a Stoner Metal/Rock act due the melodic 70s’ Acid Rock/Psychedelic Rock of their musical work, but’s there are many influences from the 80s as well, strong touches of Hard Rock of the 70s (namely LED ZEPPELIN and DEEP PURPLE) and Heavy Metal of the 80s, with very good technical level (pay attention to the bass guitar lines during “Chemical Voodoo” to check what these words mean), and more.
The result is a multifaced form of music (still relaying on Stoner Metal/Rock limits) that is full of hooking melodies and good energy. Yes, it’s really good. The sonority seems to be created to have a deeper organic feeling, evading endless digital editions to state clear that there are human beings playing (and not computers of AIs). But pay attention: to be organic doesn’t mean to be dirty or something that’s hard to understand, because the quartet’s music is easy to be absorbed by the senses due the good level of quality they reached.
The songs of the album are all really tasty. It’s hard to decide between “UFOnaut” (excellent melodic lines with a touch of influences of Hard Rock and Heavy Metal, with fine vocals), “Between Worlds” (if you don’t felt the clear ‘blackmorean’ influences on the guitar riffs, you must get back to the studies; and what hooking melodies), “Sinful Ways” (excellent Heavy Meal/Hard Rock hooks once more), “Doomed”, “Down From the Inside” (the intense groove heard fills the song with a 70s’ psychedelic feeling, besides the weight heard on bass guitar and drums brings things to a younger outfit), “Chemical Voodoo”, “Way Down Below” (a bluesy feeling similar to that one heard on old BLACK SABBATH songs is heard here) and “Lumerian Nights”.
As final words, JUPITER CYCLOPS is welcome to the world, and pay attention to what the band is showing on “Age of the UFOnaut”.
