Don't you just love band names that seem to be made up by randomly picking words out of a dictionary? One such band is JUNKYARD LIPSTICK, a four-piece all-female Thrash Metal band from South Africa. Formed in 2011, this band has managed to garner quite a gathering in their brief history. Having released their first full-length album last year, 2014 sees them release an EP, entitled "The Butcher's Delight", with the EP launch taking place on 29 March. Their lyrical theme, whilst dealing with motifs of gore, incorporates a playful sense of humour, something that is also reflected in their album artwork, which presents and odd but interesting amalgamation of gore and a more delicate trace of femininity.

Having seen the band a couple of times a few years ago, I was curious to see what JUNKYARD LIPSTICK were up to now, and one thing that stood out the most is how much they have grown and evolved over the years. "The Butcher's Delight" is a six-track release, with elements of the band's Punk beginnings shining through, especially in tracks like "Size Zero Death Match", whist songs like "Bioterror" and "Protest and Pudding" are fast-paced bass-heavy catchy songs that clearly shows the more Thrashy direction taken by the band, and that are sure to get the mosh pits going at their concerts.

Overall, the EP is well varied, with never a dull moment. The recording quality is also good, with each instrument being well mixed in. The vocals also have an incredible range and this combined with the interesting changes in guitar riffs ensures that the album maintains a fresh sound throughout, with the bass and drums providing a solid backbone for each of the tracks. This band most certainly has come far since they started out, and with their current trajectory, it will be interesting to see what they go on to conquer next.
