Terror Regime

Yeah that is right the groove on Death Metal is back! JUNGLE ROT returns with their newest album, "Terror Regime", two years after "Kill On Command". These guys are keeping themselves quite busy, as it would seem. Anyway what has changed here in terms of style and structure: Nothing, which is not a bad thing. The band is pretty much following the same path as they have since they first started out with their demo "Skin The Living" (was reissued by Victory Records recently).
So what you get here is pretty much straight forward. Great mid tempo Death Metal tracks, of short duration (only one song is actually more than four minutes long), making "Terror Regime" an aggressive and at the same time easy to listen to album. From the opening track of the album the band is bringing tons of heavy, groovy Death Metal forward. With their music influenced mainly by OBITUARY (the riffs on "Pronounced Dead" definitely has some influence from the legendary Death Metallers from Florida) and BOLT THROWER with the cool addition of hardcore influences and thrash metal leads (most of which sound SLAYER-like, for instance on the title track and on "Scorn").
Still there are few bursts of speed and songs with a more Thrash like attitude like "Ruthless Omnipotence". Only other surprise was the almost Punk / Grind song of the album, "I Don't Need Society" which has an almost crust sort of vibe to it. Shorter tracks were the ones I found most impressive on the album, with my favorite one being "Carpet Bombing", with its early BOLT THROWER-esque tone.
So there you have it, a band that has been doing what they know best for quite some time now, comes back with another excellent release. Has much changed? No. Is it something you have not heard before? No. Does that matter? No. Is it good? Fuck yeah it is!! The band has stayed true to their sound, so if your interest is on the more mid tempo groove dictated side of death metal then "Terror Regime" is an album you will definitely enjoy.
