Acid Acetate Excursion & Rape Of The Titan's Sirens
JPT Scare Band

Hailing from Kansas City, Missouri, JPT SCARE BAND should be an instant enjoyment for those familiar and partial to the Rock scene of the 1970s. In fact, Seventies is the one word I can use easily to describe them. From the first track, it took me back to my childhood of hearing the likes of CREAM, DEEP PURPLE and THE ROLLING STONES.
Embracing a very nostalgic sound, their latest release upholds an armful of qualities and elements from the seventies, focusing on JIMI HENDRIX style guitar work and distorted, vintage style vocals. It's very clear after listening to tracks like "Acid Acetate Excursion" that the music isn't vocal based/reliant. The sweetly familiar squealing guitar sounds of the 1970s make a frequent appearance in their music, which to me, makes for a very accurate representation of music from that glorious era. I loved the slow grooves of "Slow Sick Shuffle" and the low and smoky bass lines underneath the singing guitar talents of Terry Swope. As clichéd as it may sound, the guitar seriously does all the talking in this album and really substitutes the absence of vocals, especially from the aforementioned track and "King Rat".
Although their sound is very easily categorised in to the 1970s, I can't help but pick up on a slightly (and I do mean slightly) more modern sound, bringing about thoughts of STONE TEMPLE PILOTS. This album reminded me of chilling in a smoky garage listening to a band jamming, which allows me to emphasise the point that they are clearly enjoying what they do, and are passionate about it. Drawing attention to "It's Too Late", the seventh track on this album, I have to confess I was a fan. The steady pace coinciding with the vocal harmonies of Paul Grigsby and Terry Swope and the crisp, yet nostalgic, drumming style of Jeff Littrell, was successful in delivering a Blues Rock style jam. My only criticism is that their sound is not anything particularly new, but since the music they are influenced by are predominantly successful bands, this doesn't have to be a criticism at all!<
