I Belong
Jimi Anderson Group
Due to the lack of attention to all releases and news that every day that is falling above our heads, it's impossible to hear and know every album and every artist. Then, when the listener meets the band, it's an instant love case. That's what many will feel when listening to "I Belong", the second album of JIMI ANDERSON GROUP. It's a massive and accessible form of AOR/Melodic Rock in its classic way, near of what everyone knows from names as JOURNEY and KANSAS, but with some features near works from names as TOTO, SUPERTRAMP and other names from the same genre (the mix between elegant musical outfits with Pop approach that was usual during the first half of the 80's).
It's nothing in a genre that wasn't heard before (please, AOR is here since the earlier years of the 70's), but the way these guys are doing is really great, with accessible charming melodies, remarkable choruses (in that way that once heard, never forgot), and all those elements that keep their charms even after such amount of time. Be prepared to become a fan! Sandy Jones is the name of one who worked on the production of the album (yes, the same one who played guitars, bass and programmed the drums), making something clean as crystal, but with the right amount of weight and that essential touch of dirtiness (a Rock album of any subgenre must have it, of course). Yes, it is really an excellent work in this aspect.
The firepower of the band's musical work is shown on all the songs of "I Belong", but on the elegant aggressive touches of "Brave New World" (very good vocals in the same way used for Steve Perry on the past), the sharp melodies of "Holdin' on to the Night" (heavy guitar riffs using excellent melodies, and what a hooking chorus), the purest seductive rhythm shown on "If All I Need is You", the tasteful Hard/Glam approach used on "Wonderful Tokyo Nights" (very good work from bass guitar, with a good programming on the drums, and lovely backing vocals), the charming contrasts created by guitars and keyboard parts on "Blinded by the Moonlight" and "Fearless Warrior (Speak With Fire)" are the ones that will make the reader listen and buy this release. The other songs are excellent as well.
Hear it as many times as you can, because "I Belong" is really addictive!
