As probably the biggest metal band of any kind to come out of Bussolengo, Italy, JAHBULONG certainly come from small beginnings. Formed in 2015, the trio from the Veneto region began releasing music in 2017 with their self-titled debut EP. Now, having established themselves in the Stoner/Doom Metal community, comes their second album and first full-length effort titled "Eclectic Poison Tones."

So the listener puts on the album for the first time and hears all the hallmarks of the Stoner/Doom subgenre. Those heavy bass lines. Those pounding, distorted guitar riffs. Those cymbal crashes. Take a heavy song and slow it down by 100 beats per minute or so and anyone reading this will understand what to expect.

Unlike more "traditional" music on this side of the Metal spectrum, the fuzzy guitars are a little subdued and mellow. There are no frills, no sweep-picking, and no arpeggios within the constructs of the riffs nor solos so this is a great recommendation for the Doom Metal purist. In fact, there may be those who might use "Eclectic Poison Tones" as background music for a smoke-filled, darkened room lit by two or three lights of red, green, or black, and they would be well within their thinking for doing so.

In track two "The Tower Of The Broken Bones" there is a nice transition from the drone of the opening song to a less-distorted guitar tone, giving an almost desert-stoner rock feel to the music, thinking in the line of KYUSS and the like. The voice behind the lyrics fluctuates between tangible and forte to ethereal and recessed, allowing the vocals to enhance the haunting doom overtones. The percussions are straightforward but unapologetic. The intent is clear and the way the tracking comes together indicates how much thought was put into each note of each instrument.

The album at four songs deep is thin in track listing only, carrying with each the type of length anyone familiar with this corner of the Metal cornucopia would expect. The quality is worth mentioning to, both in songwriting and production. All four tracks are highly listenable and demonstrate the incredible and original craftsmanship possessed by JAHBULONG. It will certainly be worth watching what lies on the horizon for them!
