Hailing from Katowice, Poland, and specialising in Sludgy Stoner Southern Metal. The aptly titled "Funeral Celebration" is the final album after a fourteen-year long career, but J. D. OVERDRIVE want the listener to know that this is no sombre affair because this album rips. Song after song the band never fails to impress. Awesome instrumentation, seamless blending of genre and perfect Doom style production. The drums are heavy, the riffs are dirty and the vocals are angelic.

Funeral bells open the album, as J. D. OVERDRIVE eases us in with a dark riff over distant, mystical vocal sound. "Funeral starter" is the sonic funeral procession carrying us to the celebration of over a decade of musical development.

Drenched in Sludge, the headbanging instigator "The Ferryman Cometh" is a critical indictment of the capitalistic mundanity of life. 'Rejoice for the end of days.' The song is very critical in its lyrics but packaged nicely in fun riffs and killer drum fills.

"Casual Catastrophies", one of the best tracks on the album, it's heavy, fast and full of life. The guitars are grooving and the swung drums pump the song full of energy. Topped off by the guitar solo towards the end and the choked crash fills, this song is a testament to J. D. OVERDRIVE'S musical ability and artistry.

"On Corpses of Giants" is unadulterated doom, slowing it down from the previous tracks, it is purposeful, moving; the ghost notes on the snare creates lots of groove, the bassist, guitarist and drummer all brilliantly utilize the space they are given, filling it with subtle riffs and changes that keep the seven-minute gentle song consistently interesting. "Come Full Circle" is undoubtedly one of the best songs I've heard this year. The deep booming vocals and the lyrics that seem to talk directly to you. The composition of the various drum fills and frequent accents, as well as the huge sounding China cymbal, it is a brilliant drum track. The guitar riffs are experimental and the frequent changes in pitch and style make it one of the most interesting and unique songs on the album too. The album caps off with a Lo-Fi final word, giving the album the feeling of completion, it wraps up the full length, and subsequently the bands career, in a dreamy soundscape of pleasant warmth. "A Funeral Celebration," a celebration of life.

J. D. OVERDRIVE are evidence that if you do anything long enough you will perfect it. They have put in their 10,000 hours and A Funeral Celebration gives them a reason to walk away from the project with their heads held high, secure in the knowledge they will have made a great impact on Southern Metal and the Polish music scene as a whole. This album is a brilliant amalgamation of fourteen years of dedication to artistry and I cannot recommend it enough.
