From the Grave

Iron Spell

The songs on “From the Grave” themselves are all very pleasant, have that ability get you tapping your foot, nodding your head, but also have the diversity and differences plus the breaks that make them all sound just that different from the other ones, while maintain the cohesion in sound that will make you realise that yes, you still are listening to the same IRON SPELL throughout the whole album.

Chile is not too well known for having too many Heavy metal bands, but that is probably due to the fact that much of the music available doesn’t get past the land’s borders. IRON SPELL is from the capital Santiago and have been active since 2013. In that time, they have succeeded in releasing one studio album (“Electric Conjuring” in 2016) and two compilation albums (“Witching Hour: The best Of Iron Spell” and “Live Magic After Midnight”, both in 2021) plus a number of singles. And no, I haven’t heard any of the elder releases of IRON SPELL. Their sophomore album “From the Grave”, released on 25-07-2025 is the first I ever had the pleasure of listening to, let alone reviewing.

When I was trying to find out a s much as I can about IRON SPELL I came across a lot of reviews for “From the Grave”, and they had quite the range, but all on the positive side of the spectrum. Everybody is in agreement that what they bring to the turntable is deemed from rather good up and until splendid. What that did for me is make me extra apprehensive about listening and reviewing “From the Grave”, as I do wish to do the album as well as the band justice. What does become quite clear from the get go is that we are dealing with a group of very talented and experienced musicians. The NWOTHM kind of Heavy Metal Music that IRON SPELL plays has that kind of flow and feel that makes it easy to listen to. plus, if you have a guitar player that can play a solo like Ritchie Blackmore, Michael Schenker and Yngwie Malmsteen gelled into one, you know you have gold in your hands.

And all of them have enough quality to lift the whole listening experience above an average one. In this day and age, you doing something right if you succeed in that field. My conclusion therefore must be that IRON SPELL have made a very pleasant album with “From the Grave”.
