"Rehumanize" is the new album progressive metal act ION OF CHIOS who come all the way from Florence, Italy. The band seem to be waking waves in the scene in and around Italy since this release of their debut single which happens to appear in this album. So the "_ReHUManize_" opens with the bands much well received debut single "Killjoy". The track opens with a cool sounding bass line, then we get the keys coming in to add to that bass. When the guitar and vocals come in both keep the same melody to carry the song. There is a pretty cool section here with a keyboards solo that goes into a guitar solo then back into another keyboards solo. There are lots of other elements from different genres present here as well, like a slight jazz element with the keys at the start and another slight funk style coming from the guitar.
Next up we get "Raving Lane" which goes in a little bit of a different direction, almost a little symphonic metal. Some classic metal elements in the verse and a thunderous sounding chorus. You will find some really cool solos here too and a really nice piano from the songs middle section. We hear the sounds of crowds gathering as "Saint Hypatia" starts its opening notes with a guitar lick that brings us right in. With the guitar and piano sound present here we get a slight operatic feel to this track with hard rock elements that give us this epic scope of sound. The piano work really shines here.
"The Art of Silence" is dark but really melodic too with its guitar and bass lines. The song then builds up so ION IN CHIOS can bring the heavy. The song has some killer riffing and some cool keys solos there with really good pacing too. Right from the start "Life is the Cause" has some killer riffing going on with the keys really complimenting the guitar work. The chorus here has a bit of a different sound when compared to the rest of the track. The guitar here really shines here as the keys come and take over and we get this guitar and keys harmony going on. The lead guitar playing really serves the song and you can hear Marco Melillo giving it is all as the bass plays us out.
We get to the final song with I'm Yours" which opens with a very piano ballad feel to it. The band then comes in and the guitar carries the melody as the song builds to the chorus. The middle section then brings the song back down again only for the band to bring it back up for a big sounding chorus and a big sounding guitar solo.
When I was given this band to review I honestly wasn't expecting this kind of sound. Here on "_ReHUManize_" you can hear ION IN CHIOS covering many other genres such as jazz and funk at the start, bit of hard rock and heavy metal and even a small bit of piano ballads towards the end. The band take all the progressive elements and just run with them with s slight bit of experimenting going on too. There is lots going on in each song and you can hear a large scope of ideas in their song writing and a lot of range with the vocal work by Paolo Depa.
