Reside Infernus
Insult

INSULT hail from Bristol, England and were initially established in the mid-1980’s. Featuring members from iconic thrash metal band, ONSLAUGHT, INSULT were conceived by drummer, Steve Grice, who joined forces with former ONSLAUGHT bassist, Jase Stallard, and roadie, Jase Howell, who handles vocal duties. The trio then added talented guitarists Robbie Harris and Jonny Fifield, to fully complete their impressive line-up. No, I didn’t have to look this up myself. This is information that came with the music. Saves me looking it all up. “Reside Infernus” is the debut album of these Rockers, because that is what they play. Heavy Rock & Roll with Metal and even some Thrash influences from time to time.
Another piece of information that the band offered in an accompanying PDF file: “Reside Infernus” was produced without relying on the automated tools that many artists use today. Every riff, every lyric, every beat was crafted organically, driven by emotion, experience, and a deep connection to the art of making music. The result is something that speaks with authenticity. This is an album that breathes and roars rather than merely exists as a by-product of technology. And yes, when you listen to the album you can hear that this is a true statement. This isn’t one of those mathematically challenging albums. On the contrary, this is as a loose tie flapping in the wind, going in the direction the wind takes it.
As for the enthusiasm of INSULT. That is one thing no one can challenge. These guys are rocking as if their lives depend on it. and by the sound of it, that is also the way they have decided how to write, play and record their songs. Is that good? Well, not always. Opener and title song “Reside Infernus” as well as closer “Power From Hell” are very impressive songs that easily stick out above all the other songs on the album. The rest it Heavy Rock with guts and gusto, but as far as I can hear, without the depth or quality that make me want to jump for joy or go wild in any way or matter. To me this all sounds just a bit too average. The six songs in the middle have left my brain as soon as the last note has been played. I suspect that some Speedrock and MOTÖRHEAD fans will love this to bits, but it just doesn’t do it for me.
