Irreverence of the Divine

Besides the quartet needs to evolve, this release brings to Old School Death Metal fans a good set of songs.

Again: there isn’t problems when doing any genre of Old School Metal you can think of, and what was good in the past is still good today, but there’s one thing no one can forget to do: to make music with your own contributions, what means that you can’t solely be a clone of what was already done. And besides some improvements must be done, the quartet INSINERATEHYMN shows a good work on “Irreverence of the Divine”. Recorded by Allen Falcon at Birdcage Studios, with mixing and mastering done by Erol Ulug at Bright Lights Basement, the sonority of the album shows traits that emulates what was usual on the early days of the Second Wave of Death Metal (±1989-1994), with a raw and distorted outfit, but with things trying to be defined as well. The artwork of Edgar Roldan fits on what they play, with very good traces and contrasts between the colors. It's clear that the quartet uses an Old School Death Metal to create its songs, being rough and simple, with some clear Hardcore traces (as heard on “Delusive Omniscience”) without making things extreme complex (besides they use a very good technical appeal in some moments). At the same time, a massive energy is unleashed by the band, and the only ‘but’ allowed: they still need to leave the shadows of their influences, because they’re still sounding like them in many parts, so they need to mature their ideas a bit more.

Besides the negative and positive aspects written above, the fans of Old School Death Metal will really fall in love with “Irreverence of the Divine”, “Cosmic Abominations”, “Delusive Omniscience”, “Sempiternal Suicide”, “Mephitic Anamnesis”, “Covenant of the Virtuous”, “Visage of the Infinite” and “Acolytes of God’s Disease”, because their songs are filled with good rhythmic contrasts (not always fast, not always slow), charming guitar riffs and nasty solos, and low guttural growls. Maturing is needed, but they’re on the right path.

INSINERATEHYMN has a lot of potential , and it’s just a matter of maturing and using their own ideas. For now, “Irreverence of the Divine” is for Old School Death Metal fans that aren’t extremely exigent.
