666-Pack
Insanity Alert

Crossover Party Thrash has always been one of my favourite sub genres in the world of metal, and add a bit of 666 theatrics to it, we are in for a trip. So Austrian quartet INSANITY ALERT have released their 3rd full length album "666-Pack" few weeks ago in January through Seasons of Mist Records.
With 21 songs in here, you would be mistaken to judge the length of this record, as it clocks just under 33 min in all. The album starts with a fairly average instrumental burst of Thrash of about a minute in "Thirstkiller". "The Body of the Christ Is the Parasite" is a very Punkish Thrash song, with lyrical themes of war and horror. It has the typical screaming Thrash vocals assisted by the backing gang vocals." If I had built a school of my own, "All Mosh/No Brain" would be its morning anthem or prayer, because it's just so cool, especially with the gang backing vocals, and the unusual Bass solo in the middle and is just a party mayhem all around, which is so much fun. "Cobra Commander" starts with a sharp guitar riff that reminds me of the stereotypical snake charmers here in India, but the song quickly turns into a moshpit chaos, with anti-establishment and anti-social lyrical themes, which are perfectly up my ally. The song does sprinkle few juicy sharp riffs here and there, which are to air-guitar along. "Saturday Grind Fever" is a short 1 minute song, almost trying to replicate what Grindcore bands achieve in that time, along with the screaming Thrash vocals. Honestly, I am not complaining at all.
"Echoes of Death" is somewhat less impressive as the song feels as if the band is trying too hard to achieve the Punk-ish sound. The album has a bunch of songs in the middle such as "Windmilli Vanilli", "StopSlammertime!", "Why So Beerious?", and the cheesily titled "Mosh Mosh Mosh", which are nothing special, but really good short Thrash attacks and pretty cool to jam along. The last song on Side A "One-Eye Is King (In the Land of the Blind)" is another fast paced trainwreck of a song, but does slow down to create the tension and tempo, before you are subjected to a slow ballad kind of a sound towards the end, which is a total surprise, but the vocals maintain the tension all the way through, which is a cool thing here. The rest of the album chugs along the same way, with fun Thrash riffs and comedic lyrics like the ones in "Chronic State of Hate". The craziness goes all the way till the end, with the album ending with a 'long' 3 min song in "Dark Energon", with the song starting with some sci-fiction demonic sound before the Thrash attack begins and completes the song.
With influences of bands like MUNICPAL WASTE and TANKARD, the Austrian boys in INSANITY ALERT have created another near masterpiece here. With song titles like "I Come, I Fuck Shit Up, I Leave", you know, you will have a real good time with this album, and the music ain't so bad either. "666-Pack" isn't one for the Metal purists who bitch about how good Metal ended in the 80s. Pick this one blindly just to fuck around and for some fun. Consider this as the Thrash Metal's answer to Hollywood's "Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas" movie, minus the big names.
