Heroine
Inglorious
Today, we are living in social conflicts throughout the world. One of the most astonishing things is to see that still there are countries where women are not equally respected. To a person into Rock 'n' Roll, macho social rule MUST be an unbearable thing, and we are invited to give the right opposition to it. And one more thing: if the reader is a machismo follower, stop reading these lines and nevermore for anything I write. Rock 'n' Roll was born from the hands of a woman (Sister Rosetta Tharpe, the Godmother of Rock 'n' Roll), so if you oppose to the human rights of the women, you're rearing to the wrong musical genre. And as a proof of how women are important to music, the British quintet INGLORIOUS released this excellent album, "Heroine".
As everyone already knows, these guys play a form of classic Hard Rock based on the 70's insight, but with a modern and fresh energy into the musical core of their work. And here, they use it to make a homage to female stars, and all the songs comes from different musical genres, as Pop, Soul, Folk Rock and others. But it's impressive how these guys know how to make these songs sound in their own way. And the final result is really excellent. The sonority is excellent, and fits on what they want to express. Everything is sounding defined and clean, but with a heavy dose of musical weight. Yes, it sounds alive and full of energy.
And the result of their efforts is really amazing, because they really honor the original singers, and they could have worked on more songs. But it's the set of songs chosen is amazing, but pay attention on "Queen of the Night" (Whitney Houston would be honored with such energetic version, based on amazing guitar riffs), "Barracuda" (an old hymn of HEART, here on a heavier version, and what amazing singing can be heard), "Midnight Sky" (Miley Cyrus would love this one, for it's a perfect match between weight and melodies, based on a strong playing from bass guitar and drums that preserves the contrasts between slower parts with Rock ones), "Nutbush City Limits" (this Hard Rock embodiment on this old song of the Diva Tina Turner is excellent), "Fighter" (Christina Aguilera would be frantic with this one, and sing along with the band), "I Hate Myself for Loving You" (this dirty Rock 'n' Roll belongs to the goddess Joan Jett, here preserving its original melodies, but with a new energy), "Time After Time" (one of the first commercial successes of Cyndi Lauper, a lovely and beautiful ballad, and brought tears to mine eyes, because I still remember when it was released, and how I loved it and still love it after all these years, because it's based on clean guitars and excellent vocals), and "Uninvited" (of Alanis Morissette) are the ones for a first time on the album.
These women deserve respect, and "Heroine" shows the value and contribution that some of them gave to music. And INGLORIOUS deserves praises for this homage.
Is the macho reader still there, complaining? One more thing: FUCK YOU!
