Infliction - Blame The Sun album cover

On towards the streets I go. In every corner lays a potential fight, someone to mess with and kick the shit out of. Don't perceive me as violent person, as I am not. However, sometimes it is hard to shake the feeling that an oddity is dragging down a path that the majority wouldn't want to cross, to be a tough guy, an overly proud hard ass dude. Who knows, maybe I should blame the sun for it. The Polish INFLICTION did with their EP, "Blame The Sun". Through their songs, five in number, I endured the urge for violence, down there in the slums, the burning rush, the dirt, blue collar and street level Metal swiftness. Chopping and bashing like the Nu Metal SEPULTURA right before Max Cavalera's departure, like the once Brazilian giants, INFLICTION ditched the European pit and integrated with the New Wave Of American Metal, stomping with 90s MACHINE HEAD, late 90s PANTERA in order to create a sort of Post Thrash emblem of themselves and "Blame The Sun" is the first official product of this ongoing process.

I don't know if I was that tired, or the other way around, but frankly "Blame The Sun" is at fault for my tediousness and wish for a long slumber. As a Thrash fan, I could barely distinguish what these were doing, but that is main result of modernization, especially of Thrash Metal, probably the closest exit point to Hardcore / Punk. But INFLICTION didn't punk out the pit, the relished the grooves, depthy sense of the American nation, enclosed a few speedy parts for the kick of it, SLAYERising themselves in order to provide a glimpse of hope, yet in general lacking the composure to keep it steady. The opening "Blame The Sun" actually has quite a prospect within its structure, straightforward from head to toe, but also mean and provocative. Banality isn't that foreign in this number, as well as on the others songs, but still it is manageable. The little by little frolic "Ethnic" is a closer to Hardcore than Thrash, yet it still has a few section that made recall early 90s SEPULTURA where there was still hope for those chomps. But not anymore I'm afraid. The song's chorus is pretty good, might cause a few heads to turn played live, great energies for this one. This one in particular stressed out my disdain for this hollow type of vocals, sounding like Phil Anselmo but with a bit of accent. I would have at least hoped for a little diversity but it was denied. Kosiarz has a good voice to perform in such a manner, but how about letting the monotony go.

On the rest of the tracks I found only bits and pieces to truly be impressed. I think that INFLICTION know how to keep the groove, they adore the American Metal scene. Their material is somewhat drone and dull, there is a lack of talent to write better songs, but it will probably be enhanced in time as their experience will grow. Groove and modern Thrash fans, take your pick.
