Infernal Angels - Ars Goetia album cover

The conjuration of demons has begun, summoning the armies of the underworld, seeking out their tales and stories. Each number of legions are being controlled by a demonic king, an overlord that is bound to lead the charge. Who are these kings and why do we need to know about them? The question of why is irrelevant, there identity through music may garner enough interest to keep their story alive. The Italian Black Metal act INFERNAL ANGELS rose to the occasion to commemorate the ritual, preaching about the plan of attack for each of the kings within their new album "Ars Goetia", via My Kingdom Music.

Encrusted by the icy atmosphere that is no less morbid than the Norwegian winter storm, INFERNAL ANGELS have been maintaining their line of music. Clasping the old school heritage of the 2nd wave of Black Metal while establishing mid to fast tempo melodies in the process to avoid sounding over primitive, more in the nature of the early 90s. There are close similarities to acts such as TAAKE / GORGOROTH / IMMORTAL / NAGLFAR, which their influence is quite evident. "Ars Goetia" possess within its concept a rather developed musical scenery, gathering the brutal nature of blast beating mayhem with a line of intriguing riffs and frosty harmonies. I couldn't say that I enjoyed the vocal effort surging above, somewhat whiny for my taste in this subgenre, yet eventually I noticed that it went along just fine with the music. The drumming however, is a different story, quite diverse, tight and energetic.

The songwriting within "Ars Goetia" isn't a trial to assert a new standard, it follows previous examples with several standout points that made it special on its own. There is still work to be done to make it even more glorifying, nevertheless, INFERNAL ANGELS proved themselves right. It is much recommended to witness in depth to worth mentioned strong points as "Asmoday: The Impure Archangel", "Paimon: The Secret of Mind" and "Balam: Under Light and Torment". These three general kings made justice for this release, exposing once again the infernal diabolism of the subgenre but with a spike, melodic with a devilish sense.

This is not my first entanglement with the Italians, following my previous exhibition with their 2009's album "Midwinter Blood". My Kingdom Music surely made a good save with these guys. Be sure to check it out.
