Culto
Infection Code

Death Metal regained space after the coming of the Second Wave of Death Metal (1989-1993), and it never seemed dead again (as happened on 1986, when a great part of the bands of the genre became Thrash Metal ones). Today, there are bands of the genre spread throughout the world, with many of veterans keeping things in a classical sense. One of them is INFECTION CODE, from Italy, that is here after 26 years of existence, still ripping ears, now with “Culto”, their 10th full-length.
Tommy Talamanca worked with the band at Nadir Studio, and did the recordings, mixing and mastering of the album, keeping things as classic as they can. It means that it still holds the abrasive and rough appeal of Old School Death Metal releases, but keeping things in a way that can be understood by the fans. It’s a very good result, but could be better. And the artwork of Simone Strige is very good, shaping on graphic what their music of the trio delivers.
In a sense, one can call the trio’s music as a form of Old School Death Metal from the 90s, but influenced by early works of Gothenburg Death Metal School (in the vein of AT THE GATES), or in other words, there are many melodic arrangements mixed with brutality (pay attention on the riffs during some parts on “The Final Act”), and even some unexpected touches (as the keyboards used on “Great Old Ones Company”). It’s really a very good release, indeed.
The ideas of the band are expressed on this line between Old School Death Metal and Old School Melodic Death Metal, so to taste moments as “Nail in the Wall”, “Great Old Ones Company”, “The Final Act”, “Cursed Breed”, “Dead Brain’s Oblivion”, “Faceless God”, “Inner Infernus”, “Veleno”, “Plague Daemon” and “Worship Remains Underground” and experience by yourself these nasty and hooking guitar riffs, insane and classic rhythms from bass guitar and drums, and the contrasts between shrieks and growls from the vocals. You’ll thank me for the tip, indeed.
“Culto” shows a band that still has a lot to offer, so listen to it and pay respect to INFECTION CODE.
