Hybris
Inerth
There’s a mistake in some people minds: to say that only on the 70s and on the 80s there was good Metal acts creating something is a mistake. During the 90s, acts as MINISTRY, PANTERA, FEAR FACTORY, GODFLESH, SEPULTURA and others helped new ways to be opened in the future. They’re the pioneers of Groove Metal tendencies, and of Industrial Metal as well, and (like it or not) such genres are extremely important for what was created on the 90s and so on. And as a heir of it, here is the Spanish quintet INERTH with “Hybris”, the band’s latest release, a 4-tracks EP. Produced by the band along with Javier Ustara (who recorded, mixed and mastered the songs), and being recorded at Mpire studio, and with the vocals being recorded at The Ocean studio (Ferrol, March 2nd 2024) by Brais Landeira, the sonority is into a tendency that enables the hearers to understand what is musically being expressed because everything sounds defined, even with such aggressive instrumental tunes.
And the disturbing artwork of the cover is a creation of Giancarlo Melgar. The music of the quintet lays on a mix between Groove Thrash Metal with bits of Old School Death Metal of the 90s and Industrial Metal, and some influences of Sludge Metal and Doom Metal. It’s different from the usual, filled with intense groove and sounds like as a wartank smashing your bones (besides some melodies arises on the guitar solos, as heard on “Fentanyl”). It’s truly good, indeed Every track has its own value. “Midlife Wasteland” brings things into a Groove Thrash Metal ways similar to SEPULTURA during “Chaos A.D.” days, especially due the use of nasty guitar arrangements and intense groove. Into a more experimental tendency and with a Groove/Industrial Metal appeal is “Oblivion”, with very good clean vocals laying on the intense rhythmic attack. “Fentanyl” brings something into a Groove Death Metal way, with abrasive aggressiveness relaying on the guitars. And “A.I.” tries some experimental/Industrial insight, but with an overdose of aggressiveness and melancholy flowing from the speakers.
“Hybris” is a very good release for those that like modern tendencies on Metal, and the name of INERTH deserves to be known for the fans of such genres.
