Temples Colliding in Fire

Inconcessus Lux Lucis

I like the combination of filthy Black Metal with the Speed and Thrash Metal of the past. Although they aren’t creating anything new necessarily, the sound is authentic, and it blasts right through your ears with fire and passion. These riffs will stick around your head for a while as well.

From the UK, comes Black Metal band INCONCESSUS LUX LUCIS. Not much is known about the band, but this album is their third full-length, and it has seven songs. “From the Forge Primordial and Timeless” is first. The opening tones are clean and smooth, and what follows is a fairly straightforward Heavy Metal riff. “I Am the Crooked Blade” is next, and talk about a change of pace…this one comes at you with a thick Black Metal riff and harsh vocals that have a good deal of reverb in them. The mood darkens quickly here.

“Temples Colliding in Fire” has a strong combination of traditional heavy metal sounds and the horrid bite of Black Metal. The main riff is bossy, and it explores throughout the song, and they ride it out like a biker cruising a long highway. “Meditations upon Burning Breath” is a short transitional song consisting mostly of thick bass notes and lead guitar, and I get a distinct IRON MAIDEN feeling to the song. “Revenge of the Other God” moves with a faster pace and MOTORHEAD vibes. It ducks into a darker and partially psychedelic sound after the half-way mark, before returning to the trains tracks laid down before.

“Eternal Descent (At the Speed of Death)” has a slow, steady, and harrowingly melodic entrance from some really nice lead guitar work, and the main riff has a Thrash swing to it, like old school MEGADETH. The lengthy “…And His Wounds Shall Devour the Heavens” closes the album, with an old school Speed Metal sound. Overall, I like the combination of filthy Black Metal with the Speed and Thrash Metal of the past. Although they aren’t creating anything new necessarily, the sound is authentic, and it blasts right through your ears with fire and passion. These riffs will stick around your head for a while as well.
