Hysterical Psychosis
Inallsenses
Too bad that there are bands that start in the wrong foot. Internal issues are always a bitch, yet, in the end the light might shine and opportunities will out there for the taking. The wrong foot, in overall, did pretty well for this Italian band. Starting back in the late 90s, creating a first demo, dissolving only to return a few years later might have a negative effect on some outfits, but not this one. For INALLSENSES, the shortcomings and the ongoings in their career only made them develop. After their debut, "The Experience", via Club Inferno Entertainment, they were signed to their local My Kingdom Music and a maniacal sophomore release, "Hysterical Psychosis", soon followed under the label's banner.
In musical terms, this band is all about musical dexterity and technicality. The band's powerhouse, in my view, is surely in the likes of their drummer, Bartolomeo D'Arezzo. This guy is plain amazing on the skins and serves as the band's core barometer. Other than sharing perfectionism, the core of INALLSENSES's music have been laying with the depths of modern Death and Thrash Metal. Through this release I even found some references to modern American Hardcore as these Italian created their music in the vein of various of American Metal bands as LAMB OF GOD, SHADOWS FALL, mid 90s TESTAMENT, HATEBREED and also some Euro groups as modern ARCH ENEMY and DEW-SCENTED. A rather nice combination of referrals I might add.
Likewise, the band's way to form a diverse style of material was also noted and provided some wonderful examples of great musicianship. However, I believe that even while being technically perfect, it might lead a band to several black areas, or to be blunt, a few musical sicknesses or something of the same, that are hard to avoid. While listening, I was impressed by the high adrenaline aggression of several of the tracks. The semi-melodic oriented pair "Psycho Killer" and "Come Back To Hell", really made an impact on this release and were its prime outcomes. The former had a rather powerful chorus for this kind of extreme genre and a hell of solo as a fine appetizer. The latter was rather weak on the peak moments, yet, its riffages were rather more interesting than the ordinary. Another pair, "This World" and "In The Gash", although low rated than the two mentioned earlier, presented some progressiveness with the nice fast switch between subgenres. "This World" turned out to be quite melodic, something like the latest material of ARCH ENEMY, only more crooked
Nevertheless, something did bother me with this album's music. In modern Metal music, especially the extreme kinds of Death and Thrash, there is the knack to repeat the same kind of riffs, however some made with different alterations. INALLSENSES did try to keep themselves away from those, but without much success thus lowering the interest. Those Thrash oriented riffs are rather addictive, although in comparison to old school type of riffages and guidelines, those are rather powerless. As well as the riffs, almost every tune had those Hardcorish breakdowns that didn't help that much. Moreover, the production, which was pretty nice, shadowed a part of the guitar lines with no reason on those breaks. In addition, even with the band's great talents, on several points it felt as if the technique factor outran the soul of some of the material. As I mentioned earlier, being too technical or too perfect has a price tag and it is not always a likable one.
"Hysterical Psychosis" might not be the foremost upper level of Technical Metal, however, these Italian dudes did come by with a good release. I assume that with a little bit of alterations to the main riffs and even taking additional references to their psychotic music, INALLSENSES can be the next extreme Metal wonder.
