Fuck Jesus and Praise Me!!

In Utero Cannibalism

These Greek Death Metal madmen created a very good release, indeed.

Death Metal has many different paths, and it’s impossible to know everything from every subgenre of it. What’s left to the fans is the experience of tasting a band’s release and saying ‘I liked it’ or ‘I didn’t like it’. It means that personal taste operates the differential role when dealing with a release, and all that writers have to say is to depict what’s being heard. But for the fans of the Greek Death Metal quintet IN UTERO CANIBALISM, one thing can be said: “Fuck Jesus and Praise Me!!” is a good release, indeed.

The band uses an insight into the genre that is near the classic Death Metal set of features, but with some personal touches. It’s aggressive and solid, with very good death growls - in way that seems to be preaching the ‘schuldinerian’ gospel -, fine guitar riffs and arrangements, and solid bass guitar and drums work. Without technical exaggerations - yet without being extremely simple - the band’s music unleashes a massive energy, even using more a slow approach. It’s good and shows some unexpected traits (as the gothic whispered vocals heard on “Where Leeches Dwell”), with tons of energy. The sonority tries to align a combination between the organic distorted tunes of the days when Scott Burns, Colin Richardson and Tomas Skogsberg started to canonize Death Metal sonorities with a modern outfit. The final result is something that sounds ‘dry’ and defined, but heavy and aggressive.

Musically, this Greek Death Metal quintet has experience and shows a very good work on “Blood on His Hands”, “Modern Day Zombie”, “Fuck Jesus and Praise Me!!”, “Where Leeches Dwell”, “Armageddon”, “Killing on Adrenaline” and “Burn Them Down”, with courage to work things out as they want, offering seven very good Death Metal tracks. It’s clear that fans of classic Death Metal will have orgasms with “Armageddon”, but those that want to have unexpected experiences will be satisfied when listening to “Where Leeches Dwell”. It means that they can reach an ample set of fans at the same time. “Fuck Jesus and Praise Me!!” is a good release, indeed, but is seems that the finest hour for IN UTERO CANNIBALISM’s music is to come.
