Mexico's own IN OBSCURITY REVEALED released this, their first full-length album in 2018 following the 2015 Demo: "Spell of the Seeker" and 2016 EP: "Grim Fumes of Revelation". Drummer Erick Hidalgo has now left the band, shortly after the release of this album to be replaced by Esteban Salcedo Ramirez aka Chester the Grinder. Guitarist Enrique Ruiz has also left, to be replaced by Alejandro Méndez. This album was originally released on November 16th, 2018 on Cassette only with "Till You Fukkin Bleed" in 2018. It was released December 12th, 2018 with Vomit Records on digital only until February 4th, 2019 when it was released on CD. On Friday 13th December 2019 it was released with a third record label, Blood Harvest.
"Our Crimson Madness" has a defining Thrash start to it. The pulsating instrumentals work perfectly to build up the melody. The coarse vocals keep up the balance brilliantly. The song keeps up pace and tempo throughout, they do not slow down for anyone. Great start. "Coven Maleficia" continues the overall feel and pace nicely. The Blackened Thrash feel oozes through. The vocals are not in your face and do not overshadow the instrumentals, they work fluently together. The technical skills shown here allow you to truly appreciate this for the genius that it is.
"Dismay" seems to have slowed down, slightly. You cannot notice the change of speed much, unless you are looking for it, like me. The overall balance has not moved from being executed to perfection. The SLAYER style guitar build up is there for all to hear, but its blended with the styles of IN OBSCURITY REVEALED, so it doesn't seem borrowed. The guitar play in here is brilliant to listen to, drums keep the pace up and drops not one beat. "Beast and Serpent" certainly feels more aggressive, but it remains well balanced within its own sound to work. The album to this point does not feel repetitive, although it has a theme that is being followed. It still has that slow head banging ability to it, a deeper, thicker sound, but perfectly done. A frantic, frenzied end to this song is spot on for what's needed. They have this worked out perfectly.
"Thy Temple Fire" continues with the aggressive and frantic stances laid down on the previous song. The band as a whole are seemingly working well towards showing off their own skills, but the team aspect blends it all together to create harmonic melodies that are brilliant. "Congress Cum Rampage" is keeping with this heavier, thicker style over the last few songs, not Doom thick, but Blackened Death at least. The skills on display here, you can't tell have been mastered out, they have put this song midway through to show progression in sound. Executed brilliantly. Sure, we've heard riffs like this before, but these guys have their own sound, no one else's. They will of course have influences that seep through, who doesn't?
"Pestilent Breath" is another slow head banger top start, then a decent build up picks up the pace and takes the bridge. Overall, it slows down and thickens up, but this is exactly the control needed to take the song into a new style. The Thrash riffs return and are placed exactly where they should, structurally, this song has it all. "Abhorrent Coffins" slows things down again, a bit like what SLAYER did on their last few albums, not an insult, it shows knowledge that they can control the songs to work as they see fit. The rest of the song is executed as well as every other. They have not missed a trick. Instrumental skills on show and fully appreciated. "Closing Victory" seems to have slowed things down more, but that lasts 30 seconds before picking up to the usual pace shown in this album. The melodies are rolling, drums seem to be hitting harder in this song, but they do not lose any effectiveness. The beat ticks over perfectly, they add a few short riffs to create an immense sound, they are not slowing this fucker down just coz it's the last song.
Brilliant album, raw and powerful, they have their own sound and they have hit every target
