"New York City iconoclastic futurists orchestrating modern Black Metal since 2005" is the description given to IMPERIAL TRIUMPHANT's work by, well, themselves it appears. Now, granted, there are several reviews from established sites that have offered up rather positive things to say about these lads and their particular interpretation of black metal. This will not be one of them.

What I sat through came across as nothing more than a group of kids in a local band that recorded a 2 song demo in someone's basement studio, and then said demo was given out to whoever was lit enough to take it. There isn't a single ounce of maturity or musicianship that can be found on either "Sodom" or "Gomorrah" and for that I am thoroughly disappointed. This EP reminds me of modern art; there are only a handful of people that will get it. Those that do will be a fan for life, those that don't will experience a very deep sense of "What the fuck did I just listen to?" followed by "Well that was 8 minutes of my life I'll never get back. Fucking thanks..."

"Goliath" is a prime example of someone trying too hard to be edgy. Using time signature changes to broaden and deepen your music is one thing, but there is such a thing as overdoing it. There was no continuity throughout the songs, leaving both as nothing more than messy musical ranting without form or function. Production quality is about the only worthwhile mention on a less than stellar release. For a rating I'd give it the rating of 4 out of 10. Until next time, stay well and live free.
