Unite and Conquer
Immortal Guardian
Lyrically, the album approaches several different subjects that all have one thing in common. Understanding each other’s spaces and differences, as a powerful reflection, on the challenges of our modern world. Nowadays technology in a sense, separates us from human interaction and presence at the moment we live in. Within our realities, we created obstacles and divisions, but that also made us come to this realization. Urging us to remember the simplicity of unity and peace, before the chaos of division and conflict took hold. Bringing us to the times before the wars.
“Ozona” is the first song. The opening notes are tinged with Classical elements, and a Power Metal blueprint, especially when Carlos stretches into the upper ranges. Their musicianship is strong, but they need to thicken up the sound a bit. “Roots Run Deep” is both thicker and heavier with keyboards in support, and Carlos really shows his incredible vocal range with some screams that could break glass. “Divided We Fall” is slower, and more depressive in nature. It speaks to the lyrical themes listed in the introduction—as a society, we will fail, if we are not able to unite.
“Lost in the Darkness” has a combination of male and female vocals, and that dramatic flair that fans of Power Metal have come to expect. Still, it’s a pretty well put together song. “Southern Rain” is the shortest on the album, and features the bassist, as well as some strong vocal harmonies and a tender touch. The title track might be the best one on the album. It has an urging in the lyrics and a positive, driving message in the music. If Power Metal can do nothing else, it surely makes the listener feel better. “Un Dia A La Vez” is a piano led song with plenty of charm and the last note turn in the chorus suggests that hope is still alive.
“Rise of the Phoenix” closes the album, and what a glorious closer it is. The band gathers all strength, reaches into their bag of creativity, and spares no expense in closing out the album with a grand symbol of hope. Overall, the best part of the album for me was the band’s strong musicianship. They are adept at every instrument and the vocalist has some set of pipes. At times however, the songs can border on the cheesy side of music, but what Power Metal band doesn’t straddle that line every now and again.
