ILLIM ADORA is a Black Metal band from Germany, and formed in 2011. To date, they have released several Splits and EPs, and now return with their newest EP, titled "Miasma of a Damned Soul," which contains five tracks. The lengthy titled "May the Winds of Northern Storm Embrace My Blackened Heart" leads off the album. A long scream opens the song, along with guitars, bass, and drums that just sound a bit amateur to me. The sound is nothing different unfortunately, it sounds like every other Black Metal band out there.

"Κέρβερος" is a little different in terms of the more lumbering pace. It allows the evil to really soak in. Beyond that however, the song is fairly linear and quite a boring listen. The title track opens with a promising, folky sound, but quickly digresses to another copy of the FWOBM. There is a little bit of creativity here and there, but it is drowned by the tones of the past. "Sleeping Under Tartarus" is unfortunately another song that re-creates the past. Some keys come in the beginning, but they are few and far between. "Ancient Nekromanteion" features a slow and grinding song with again a few nice moments, but that drone is old and worn.

I feel like a broken record when I say that when it comes to the genre of Black Metal, bands have an endless variety of sounds that the can follow, or really create their own path. The boundaries of the FWOBM are very, very unforgiving, but the boundaries of the Black Metal genre as a whole are nearly universal. So, I question why a band would want to re-create something that has already been done a million times before.
