Rust, Flesh and Dust (Reissue)
Horror Of Horrors

“Rust, Flesh and Dust” was released in 2017, and was a total surprise by Old School Death Metal musicians HORROR OF HORRORS, a band that came from Silver Spring, Maryland, USA. They came together in 1994 and in the same year the presented us with their first attempt of world domination named “Sounds Of Eerie”. They released one more album (“Fangs, Breaking The Skin” in 1996) before disbanding and another one (“Blood Of The Suspicious” in 1997) after pulling the plug on the band. Then, out of the blue there was a compilation album in 2011 named “Blood, Fangs and Foulness: The Complete Cursed Chronicles”. And now in 2025 the debut album “Sounds Of Eerie” as well as the latest album “Rust, Flesh and Dust” are being re-released by VIC Records. And to make it even more interesting; “Fangs, Breaking The Skin” should be released by now as well, by the same record company.
“Rust, Flesh and Dust” was not expected at all in 2017, as HORROR OF HORRORS weren’t active at that time. But after listening to this album, I must admit that I am glad that they did release this one, and that I am equally happy with VIC Records for giving this one a second chance. Because if one thing is clear it is the fact that HORROR OF HORRORS have grown quite a bit in the 23 years since their debut album. Not only as musicians, but also as writers. The songs are still Old School Death Metal, but now they have a lot more variety, some good breaks, appropriate tempo and rhythm changes with an outstanding sound to boot. It makes listening to “Rust, Flesh and Dust” a real treat, especially in comparison to the very sedated sounds of their debut “Sounds Of Eerie”.
Let me put it this way: “Rust, Flesh and Dust” is a very solid and well put together Death Metal album that will please anyone who favours their Old School sound and atmosphere. Nothing more, nothing less, but hey, if that is what rocks your boat and gets you through the day, I am quite happy to tell you to just go for “Rust, Flesh and Dust”. But before you feel that you automatically need to buy the other HORROR OF HORRORS re-releases, I would advise you to have a listen first. They may not be up to the standard that you are looking for, or would have expected after listening to “Rust, Flesh and Dust”.
