Snakes For The Divine

Three years after the bombastic "Death Is Just The Communion" CD, HIGH ON FIRE are ready to release their new album. So I wouldn't miss the chance of grabbing this digital promo and be one of the lucky ones to listen to "Snakes For The Divine" in advance.
I don't want you to mumble and write things that will get you bored (a.k.a. band bio). I'm just going to say one or two things and then on with the album. Formed in 1998 by guitarist Matt Pike, after his previous band SLEEP split up (now they are back in action), the reason was that he just wanted to play guitar! He joined forces with Des and George Rice who at first was the second guitarist before. Being a really productive band, HIGH ON FIRE have released five full-length albums alongside two splits, an EP and a single so far.
So, "Snakes For The Divine" is their sixth album. By the time I pressed the "play" button, it felt like something grabbed me by the throat and hit me to the wall! After 45 minutes, putting my pieces back together, I was trying to understand what the hell was that that hit me. Was it a bulldozer, a herd of buffalos, Hulk? After listening to this album a couple of times, I reached to the conclusion that it was that fucking heavy album. The power trio continues from where they were with their previous CD and goes a step forward. Not in innovation but as a band. Heavy doom /stoner riffs, alongside a solid-as-rock rhythm section are combined with Matt's harsh voice making a solid album. They have some up tempo songs too, like "Ghost Neck" that will make you want to call some friends and make a mosh pit in your room, and some mid-to-slow tempo ones that will make your neck moving up and down...non stop!
Believe me, I don't know what else to write in order to made you go and buy "Snakes For The Divine". This album kicks ass and surely is in my top Ten list for 2010.
P.S.: The opening riff is still haunting me and will probably continue to do so for a long time.
