Suddenly, I've become very uncomfortable writing this particular Metal review. I found out that "Sodomy Is Nigh". That is the message from the band HELLSODOMY. But all joking aside, that is in fact the title of their latest EP. This anal-obsessed troupe of knuckleheads from Turkey is making us all pray that nothing bad becomes of our "brown eyes". HELLSODOMY features two members formerly of the long-running band GODSLAYING HELLBLAST, drummer Eren Steyr-Aug and bassist-turned vocalist Nekro Kasil. The momentum throughout the whole album starts off sounding energetic but it eventually becomes monotonous halfway through the album. The incessant blast beats and Thrash riffs in the same keys and scales just all blend together. Although HELLSODOMY does sound like it is influence by some of my favorite bands like ENTOMBED, DISMEMBER and SUFFOCATION, it really doesn't have a unique voice of its own to differentiate them from the dozens of clones of the aforementioned bands.

The production on the record was very well done. They really encapsulated HELLSODOMY from a live music perspective. I am sure the band recorded this altogether in the studio with very few solo recordings of the guitar players or drummer. It is a very pure sound that isn't washed out with an effect on the tone to give it a more "vintage" character. At least a band that writes a song called "Satanic Bloodlust" have the decency to not be so pretentious.

The song "Sodomy And Bloodshed" perfectly sums up what HELLSODOMY not only sound like but it also represents the band's watermark of artistry and technicality. A lot of the riffs sound like they were bought straight out of the SLAYER catalog. So much of HELLSODOMY's summarization is the fact that they do not concern themselves with originality because they are still authentic enough to stand guard of the sacred old school Death Metal and Thrash Metal sound.

If "Sodomy Is Nigh", I think that is misfortunate. I prefer to listen to my music un-sodomized but, for other people, I could see where there could be a difference of opinion. If that is your cup of tea than you may want to butter your hair gaskets up for HELLSODOMY. But you may also be in "Total Disgust" of the band's ham-fisted approach to be shocking.
