Port Inspiro

Heathen's Eye

HEATHEN’S EYE needs to change their current social status from a Project into Real Band. Keep the Melodic Metal association, but most of all, stay together and keep on doing what you are doing now.

I like positivism at any time, but especially when it is encased into music. that, my friends, is something that HEATHEN’S EYE has made happen on “Port Inspiro”, the debut album by this Swedish Melodic Metal Project. The title actually means “Inspired By The Past” in Esperanto. Well, in fact they are able to mix Melodic Rock and AOR with Melodic Heavy Metal, a mix that really works. When I am listening to “Port Inspiro” I just can’t help but smile, as the guitars are churning out some very positive, inspiring and very contagious riffs. This backed by very sold bass lines and drum rhythms and fronted by very well-fitting and appropriate vocals.

This Melodic Metal Project HEATHEN’S EYE, as it is called in the EPK, is led by Göran Hamrin, as he is the main song writer as well as the guitar player. What does become clear once you have listened to “Port Inspiro” a few times is that we are dealing with very talented and experienced musicians, who know how to fuse their influences into the music. in the info that comes with the music, bands that are mentioned are ACCEPT, LYNCH MOB (best example is “Still Waters Run Deep”) and QUEENSRŸCHE. For the latter just listen to “Time To Deliver”, and I assure you that you will think like me, that this could easily have been one of their peers’ songs. And to be complete with the influences I would like to add BOSTON to that list, as the guitar sounds and riffing in “Ghosts Of Yesterday” are very reminiscent of that iconic band.

But putting all that aside, when I listen to HEATHEN’S EYE on “Port Inspiro”, all I hear is good music. well written songs, properly and inspirationally played and recorded by a bunch of very hungry musicians who sound like they needed this vessel to prove to the world that they are more than just a bunch of put together bodies. For me HEATHEN’S EYE needs to change their current social status from a Project into Real Band. Keep the Melodic Metal association, but most of all, stay together and keep on doing what you are doing now. And, if possible, becomes stronger the further they go. That would be my request, or dream, if you will. “Port Inspiro” is one hell of a debut album, and it would be a shame if this would turn out to be a one-off.
