Heathen - The Evolution of Chaos (Reissue) album cover

HEATHEN are a Bay Area Thrash Metal Band. They were formed in 1984 by Lee Altus formerly of other great Thrash Metal bands, ANGEL WITCH and EXODUS. They were unfortunately pretty much inactive from 1993 to 2001. They released an album called ''The Evolution of Chaos'' back in 2010 and to celebrate it's ten year anniversary, they re-released this album with some better production values.

Nothing better than something really fast and heavy when the biggest snowstorm in years is striking down in the Province of Quebec. HEATHEN should be explored, not stay hidden. What I am saying is that I don't consider them as underrated nor ignored, but the fact of the matter is, they were lost in the shuffle of the Thrash Metal peak. You had so many Bay Area Thrash Metal bands back then and they didn't get their due.

Since the release of the album, Jon Torres unfortunately passed away, so this is a homage to him while celebrating the ten year release. There was a lot of people that were criticizing the production value back in 2010 and they really worked hard to make it work this time. There is a noticeable difference, I felt the drums were so much better and the Bass does sound pretty good.

Lee Altus delivers some great guitar riffs and the overall quality of the album is just awesome. They reminded me a lot of ''Act II'' from DEATH ANGEL, maybe not as good but still pretty damn close. This album is one of the best Thrash Metal albums I have heard in that last decade or so. They are more a bit more technical than most of the bands out there in the genre and they have longer songs than I am accustomed to. This might be the only downfall of this album, the songs are a bit too long and feel drawn out nonetheless. I felt the album could have been 15-20 minutes shorter and I would have given the album an even better grade. Other than that, I have nothing negative to day, if you like bands like EXODUS, DEATH ANGEL and TESTAMENT, this album is for you!
