Tales from the Bones

Gutter Bones

The old mix between Heavy Metal and Hard Rock never gets old, and this German quartet is a living proof of this idea.
January 9, 2025

Classic Hard Rock or classic Heavy Metal are genres that still have a lot to offer to the fans (in music, to be honest, every genre can do such thing), and it’s just a matter of adapting the old formulas to these days (or not, if you think you can add something different to is already set). But good works on the genre are still being released every day, and “Tales from the Bones”, of the German quartet GUTTER BONES, is one of them. The sonority of the album is something that depicts a form of sounding organic, but with modern improvements. The songs bear a ‘live’ feeling clear (due the ‘stripped-off’ production that evaded endless editions or adornments that wouldn’t be possible to make during a gig), but defined and understandable. It’s a very good work on this trend, indeed.

Their musical work could be said as a ‘stripped-off’ mix between influences of Hard Rock and traditional Heavy Metal, with clear references to the music unleashed by acts as MOTÖRHEAD, AC/DC, BLUE ÖYSTER CULT (this last one due the Boogie Rock elements) and others. It’s crude and sharp, but filled with excellent greasy and dirty melodies, and every single moment of this EP is a massive rush of energy in the ears of the fans. Solid and good instrumental parts that entangle with good vocals (that can become better in the future), and what great dirty melodic hooks.

“Amun Re” (a slow and dirty Hard Rock song plenty of 70s influences, with many nasty hooks and very good guitars), “Name of the Game” (what greasy and great melodies, with strong rhythmic support from bass guitar and drums), “Our Last Days” and “Demon” are songs that are straight to the point and full of energy, depicting a band that knows what is musically doing, but that isn’t showing its full potential by now. Applauses for GUTTER BONES for its musical efforts shown on “Tales from the Bones”, and let’s wait to see what’s coming from the quartet.
