Unending Ascending

On one level, I can’t decide if the Stoner vibes are real or not, but therein lies the album’s secret. It’s a very personal listening experience where the band let’s you into their existence a little. Some of the songs had an odd vibe for me, but overall, it was good.

“Unending Ascending” is a curious peep through the telescope that takes the listener on an ecstatic voyage to witness aural supernovas explode, galaxies die and clocks reset. From the star spangled oceans of the cosmos to the salty sea bottom.” The album has eight songs. “Tiny Galaxies” is first. The sound is just bit strange…some smooth vocals and with a trippy psychedelic edge, and a throw-back 60’s/70’s sound. “My Guitar is a Spaceship” has more bombast to it, mostly in the guitars, as well as some time meter differences. The vocal harmonies stand out most, and the saxophone adds another level of oddity to the equation. If nothing else, it is raucous.

“Ship of Ishtar” is the longest song on the album, at just under nine minutes of run time. The opening tones sound like something from a space movie…but a friendly and peaceful connection with alien life. As the visit extends, both sides seem content, and a real form of communication is established. “O, Arcturus” has a jovial and bouncy sound that smooths out to the point where it’s impossible to feel angry…instead, you feel numb, and/or content, but I’m not sure which one. “All Clocks Reset” is another feel-good song, with fat saxophone notes and another smooth delivery with occasional angled peaks. If nothing else, this album will make you feel good for a time.

“Choose Your Goddess” is longer, and bit more energized, with a staccato riff and some half-angry saxophone notes. From there is just gets odd…it feels more like a trip in and out of consciousness with an occasional jab to the ribs. “Lunar Invocation” is pure, unadulterated tension in every way. The song never climaxes but the tension stays strong, on a heightened level of about eight. “Asleep Do We Lay” closes the album. It’s a smooth ending to a weird but uniquely pleasing album. On one level, I can’t decide if the Stoner vibes are real or not, but therein lies the album’s secret. It’s a very personal listening experience where the band let’s you into their existence a little. Some of the songs had an odd vibe for me, but overall, it was good.
