GOLGOTHAN REMAINS is a Death Metal band formed in 2015 from Sydney, Australia. They released a self-titled demo in 2016 and followed that up with a full-length album in 2018 called Perverse Offerings to the Void and released the album independently. After receiving respectable reviews from the first album, they returned four years later with their sophomore release Adorned in Ruins.

The opening track "Veneration Of Carnal Blasphemy" has the effect that most Death metal bands hope for as it cannons into your head with a blast beat and fast and melodic guitar. You get a good sense of Matthieu's vocal capabilities as he puts emphasis on a demonic and powerful throat growl as the music creates carnage alongside it. The next track "A Shrouded Longing For Promethean Fire" is amplified with guitar works that take on a Black metal sound, but very much carry a Death metal pace that is matched with a thunderous bass that marks its presence throughout the track. The drums are a non-stop assault on your senses as this track lives up to a Death metal reputation. "Wandering Through Chambers Of Deathlike Void" has a lot of melody within it that is concealed by the ferocious attack of the drums by Aled and is an altogether well-structured song.

"Opulent Incarnation Of Persevering Torment" is a malevolent track which again contains this savage bass from Adam that is inserting a high degree of power into the songs. The vocals at times are a high screech or yell that on top of the music, fits itself in nicely. A punchy song that should please any metalhead. The track "The Malign Hordes Of Abhorrence" opens with an eerie guitar and drums setup before blasting into your head. It has its more tranquil times through the song that allows the track to dominate when the band comes together. The album ends with the track "On Lifeless Wings Of Malice" and although the music is well written, the guitar parts on some of the songs seem to be blending together. It is for sure the sound that they are going for with the album, it just seems like the high notes following the crushing low notes are becoming too expected. The song is another crushing riff, ready for a battle track that ends the release with a surge of energy.

This is a pretty heavy album all around as the tracks seem very well balanced and the sound is high quality. The drums embody a destructive manner that feeds the instruments and vocals. With that being said, it is worth mentioning that the songs do have a melodic presence that with Death metal tends to get lost within the chaos. With well written songs and now another nine tracks to add to their arsenal, I am sure that a lot of Australia is about to see these guys coming into town this summer.
