Since the days CARCASS arose from underground and opened the doors to the morgue with “Reek of Putrefaction” (1988) and “Symphonies of Sickness” (1989), the use of disgusting lyrics with extreme sonorities became usual (even when a fan pukes his entrails out). Acts as IMPETIGO, EXHUMED, HAEMORRHAGE, GUTALAX and others not only kept (and keep) such tendency alive, but takes it to extremes. And to make things as disgusting and nauseous as possible, the Italian quartet GOLEM OF GORE arrives with “Ultimo Mondo Cane”, their latest full-length. Prepare your vomit bags!

Davide Guerri did the mixing and mastering, while Marco Carboni worked on the recording, and the conception used was: to sound as classic as Death Metal as they can (in other words, aggressive and nasty), but in an understandable way, with sickening low instrumental tunes. And no one can complain, because the outfit is precisely like this. And Gabri (from TERROR FIRMER) appears on the vocals on “Withdrawal Crisis - Through the Keyhole of Madness”, the guys from SLUG GORE appears for the gore fest on “L’isola maledetta - Immersed in a Formaldehyde Coffin”, and Tom (AKA Hambone) from HAGGUS appears on the vocals on “Chronic Obstructive Caustic Vomit”. And the graphics made by James Wilson (cover art) and Adam Medford (artwork) show from where the band’s inspiration comes from.

If people don’t know, Italian cinema industry is famous for its horror films, having many icons as Lucio Fulci (who inspired acts as DEATH and MORTICIAN), Mario Bava (whose film gave name to BLACK SABBATH) and others, and these guys are linked to them (or you think that horror entered Metal just for nothing?). Their musical ways is what Goregrind was on its beginning: a fusion of nauseous lyrics with Grindcore/Death Metal musical outfit. The quartet tries to be as classic as they can, but their musical potential is enough to higher flights, even with this release being so good.

What is heard on “Intro: Cruelty Abounds on This Planet”, “The Fragrance of Pus-Filled Eyes of the Dead”, “Regurgitated Entrails with Intense Mortification”, “Withdrawal Crisis - Through the Keyhole of Madness”, “In the Cold Room of My Restaurant, You are Dog Food”, “L’isola maledetta - Immersed in a Formaldehyde Coffin”, “The Slasher in Black Latex: Acrid Aroma in Tenebris”, “A Prayer from the Filthy Creatures of the Deep”, “Buried in Faeces - Ultimo mondo cane”, “Interlude: La montagna della dea cannibal”, “Chronic Obstructive Caustic Vomit”, “Fucked by the Shovel, Thrown into Violent Screams”, “Methamphetamine-Drenched in Piss and Gore”, “Through the Gates of Hell - Una tomba aperta”, “Back from the Gates of Hell - Una bara vuota”, “The Final Feast of the Damned - Tre passi nel delirio”, “Cannibal Banquet for the Lord of Flies: Maggots Throne” and “Outro: Senza uscita - Worse than Reality” is a festival of very good songs (with short time lengths), with screams and growls contrasting while guitars, bass and drums paves the way with a truly sound massacre. It’s all that a Goregrind fan could ask for. But don’t try to translate the lyrics, for the sake of you stomachs!

“Ultimo Mondo Cane” is a statement: it means that GOLEM OF GORE is here to stay, like it or not. Listen to it and choose your side!
