Terra Incognita (Re-release)
Gojira

GOJIRA is one of the up-and-coming bands in the Metal scene, someone likes them or not. Especially with their last album, The Way Of All Flesh, they made a big impression to the majority of the Metal fans. But right here we are not dealing with a new release but with the re-release of their first - and self-released at the time - album, Terra Incognita.
I'm not going to delay you or take advantage of your time by writing baloneys about who they are. And I'll go directly to the album itself. As written, this was a 'self release' album in 2000, so, due to GOJIRA's publicity, this is a good opportunity for Terra Incognita to have a better distribution so their fans can listen to what their sound was those first days.
In general, the sound is still the same. They already had this trademark vibe, a mixture of hardcore, Death/Thrash Metal (mostly Death Metal in this album) but with their own style. I can't say that the album sounds fresh nowadays. But there are some moments that showed the direction of GOJIRA and that they had the potential to start climb towards the upper layers of the Metal pyramid. My objection is that the only extras in this re-release are three live songs. And, to tell you the truth, it was like listening to another studio version. I expected more bonus material than only three songs. I don't have the booklet, though, and maybe they have more photos or notes in there.
As a conclusion, Terra Incognita is an album that fans of GOJIRA have already bought, since the re-release is already in the stores. All the others should buy it if they want to listen to how this band sounded in the past. And - believe me - you won't regret it. Terra Incognita is a nice album, even though not that innovative nowadays. Best moments in my opinion: Clone, Fire Is Everything, Love and Satan Is A Lawyer.
P.S.: Rating a re-release is not a good idea, especially when you don't have extra material.
