You have to love that band name! GOBLINSMOKER are a Doom Metal trio out of Durham, England. This is the third EP released by the band in only two years. Their album covers are really awesome, like most of the stuff from Doom Metal bands out there, it represents well the Doom and Gloom of the genre. Their mascot is a Toad like creature and he resembles a bit Frog from the Chrono Trigger game but far more ferocious and gigantic. I don't know who does their album covers but he is continually doing some great stuff.

I would have preferred a longer album but clocking at almost 30 minutes but this is way longer than a lot of full-length albums I heard these last few years. This EP goes by so fast, it's that good. They delivered something a bit different that I am used to nonetheless. I was awaiting something pretty standard with a production adapted to the genre but they outdid themselves. The production is very good and the emphasis is on the instruments as well as the ambiance.

For the long standing fans of the genre, this is a must listen. This is the last EP of their trilogy that revolves around The Toad King and the Goblin. I had the chance to listen to the other two Eps on YouTube and this is by far the best and they keep getting better and better. This is more polished and the emphasis is the atmosphere it creates, the stinging Bass and the damning vocals.

Yeah..the vocals. This might be the only thing I just didn't enjoy as much as I would have loved. I appreciate the fact that this a nod to older Black Metal bands, the shrieking vocals are quite a departure from the genre. The vocals do add a lot of depth to the songs and gives them a freshly squeezed breath of fresh air. I am not a big fan of Black Metal, I love the ambiance and the mood it sets but the vocals haven't been my cup of tea unfortunately. I have to give them a lot of credit, the vocals fit remarkably well with the overall concept of the album. Even though I am not a fan of the shrieks, this fits seamlessly and completes the songs so well.

They have a lot of potential and they deserve to be signed immediately, they do a fine job and I believe they might be the next ELECTRIC WIZARD. This album should be on your Spotify Playlist or iPod immediately if you like Doom Metal, search for them, you will not be disappointed.
