Same Drug New High
Gluecifer

Guess who came back after a 22 year hiatus. Yes, GLUECIFER has returned with their album "Same Drug New High", which has been available since 16 January 2016. It houses just under 40 minutes of pure Rock 'n' Roll, sometimes even touching on Speedrock. On the other end of the spectrum they're not afraid to use a touch of the sixties or seventies in their sound. These Norwegians from Oslo started life within this band in 1994, and before this one have produced five albums, and seven EPs between 1996 and 2024. Which only means that GLUECIFER was quite prolific in beating at our doors on a regular basis. They disbanded in early 2005 but got together again in 2017 for some reunion shows. Apparently, that was a huge success, otherwise I doubt I would now be listening to "Same Drug New High".
And whatever you think of these guys, their own brand of Rock 'n' Roll mix will remind you just how pleasant this kind of music actually can be, and in this case, is. Straight forward, no holds barred in your face Heavy Rock, devoid of bells and whistles. There are moments that you will feel that an intro reminds you of AC/DC ("I'm Ready"), JUDAS PRIEST ("The Score"), MOTÖRHEAD ("Armadas") or even THE KINKS ("1996"), but soon after the GLUECIFER sound takes over, and that is how it should be. The fact that the sound on the album is exquisite does help you get into the groove just that bit easier.
"Same Drug New High" has quite a tempo going on most of the time, but GLUECIFER also knows when to go a bit slower whilst toning down on the intensity at the same time. After having listened to this album a few times, you get the feeling that it feels like the band has never been gone, like they just have hibernated before going ahead exactly where they left off. And that is a good thing, as the music on "Same Drug New High" is all very good, pleasing to the ears as well and brains, and will undoubtedly put you in a very good mood. I don't care what your status is emotionally, if "Same Drug New High" doesn't make you feel better than I haven't got a clue what will. I know that every time I listen to this GLUECIFER album I get a big smile on my face, start tapping my foot and nodding my head. Welcome back!!
