Anomalous Abstractigate Infinitessimus

Gigan

This is far from the raw Death Metal of your parents…indeed, it is refined, sterile, and mechanical, yet it also breathes. It’s the closest thing to losing your total existence to utter madness without that final nail strike. In many ways, this is a worse way to live than in chaos…on the fringes of insanity and disease.

From Bandcamp, “Since 2005, GIGAN has been an unsung vanguard of abstract and creatively dissonant extreme metal. Pushing boundaries and never compromising the artistic vision throughout the debut EP and subsequent four full-length albums has led GIGAN to be considered an unwavering force of both innovation and extremity. It has been almost seven years since GIGAN has released new music and the time spent away has only honed and sharpened the still-deadly blades of creativity for which GIGAN has always been known; while also infusing fresh elements not yet heard within the GIGAN Universe. The results of GIGAN’s current hard work is the new beast of an album entitled “Anomalous Abstractigate Infinitessimus.”

The album has eight songs, and “Trans-Dimensional Crossing of the Alta-Tenuis” is first. The sound that first comes at you is incredibly dark, evil, and thick. It takes a while until the vocals come in, then, make no mistake, this is Death Metal. The sheer amount of chaos and dissonance that follows is mind-boggling. “Ultra-Violet Shimmer and Permeating Infra-sound” has another thick and overgrown sound, and you can barely tell that this is music, in the traditional sense of that word. Tread lightly, because they music will tread heavily on you. “Square Wave Subversion” is a song where you feel like you are swimming in the muck, and it’s getting harder and harder to stay afloat. Meanwhile, the water transforms into quicksand soon enough and you are drowning in it.

“Emerging Sects of Dagonic Acolytes” is a ten-minute beast, a lengthy song that you don’t often hear in the genre, because the songs are packed with so many fireworks. Soon after the opening notes, it descends into a slurry of sounds that are very hard to discern. This is chaos. “Katabatic Windswept Landscapes” is much shorter and also features some psychedelic elements with its vital brand of Tech Death. “Erratic Pulsitivity and Horror” begins with bass notes so chunky, they reverberate in your soul. What follows is another vicious and degenerative sound where you would swear the band has no idea what they are doing, but indeed, each step is carefully calculated. “The Strange Harvest of the Baganoids” is as odd as the title suggests, and I am not sure if I dreamed this entire song or lived it, with maddening memories.

“Ominous Silhouettes Cast Across Gulfs of Time” closes the album, and it feels like you just crossed eons of age and time. The psychedelic element take center stage among the heavy backbone, giving the listener a little purple tea with his dish of raw meat and bones.
