GASOLINE GUNS return with their 2nd full length album following on from 2016 debut release "Rust n Dust". Formed in 2013 the Ukranian outfit play their brand of metal 'n' roll in a style bearing distinct similarities to MOTORHEAD. "Motor Cult" was released in June via Mythrone Promotionfrom Poland.
Album opener "Bourbon Burns" just leaps out of the speakers with a burst of undiluted energy, the MOTORHEAD comparison is impossible to ignore, through the guitars, bass and drums, even the vocals of Dmytro have a gruff tone similar to that of Lemmy. Tom Angelrippper, the SODOM frontman is perhaps a better point of reference. "Bourbon Burns" is a rousing start to the album which continues into the high octane second track "Under Wicked Sky", this was released as a single and is accompanied by an official music video, the link is below. From the opening surge of bass by Andrew Moyseenko, this is another rip-roaring tune bristling with attitude. The pace is tempered slightly to a more mid paced approach for the metallic burst of "Hell Thunder". "Gasoline and Guns" which was also released as a single, is a hard driving heavy rocker completed by the effective use of gang vocals on the chorus. "El Pistolero". increases the tempo with some infectious RUNNING WILD type riffing, providing a memorable hook to the song.
"This Road is a Snake" slows down to a laid back heavy Southern Rock style groove with strummed acoustic backing on the verse, before developing into a faster rocker featuring some fine lead guitar. Next up is "Nothing to Lose", an unrepentant statement of intent conveyed in a steady heavy driving anthem. "Wheels of Rust" opens with a dirty sounding riff, building into an energetic outing injected with blistering lead guitar runs. "And That's Why We Drink" closes the album in fine style, the double bass drumming adding an extra layer of intensity, under the hard-hitting riffs of Danylo Sobolev and Volodymyr Zvol. In conclusion, GASOLINE GUNS have delivered a rousing collection of MOTORHEAD inspired metal 'n' roll tunes. There is a great level of consistency between the 9 tracks, "Motor Cult" is crammed full of catchy riffs and memorable choruses resulting in a very enjoyable album from start to finish.
