Cerberus

Galgeberg

With experienced musicians, this Norwegian Death Metal/Crust Core act releases an excellent EP.

Before the coming of the First Wave of Black Metal (FWOBM) in Norway, Death Metal had a seminal influence on Norwegian lands. Acts as CADAVER, MOLESTED (a band that had Øystein G. Brun of BORKNAGAR as member), and OLD FUNERAL (from where came artists famous for their music with IMMORTAL, HADES ALMIGHTY, GORGOROTH and others) were there before the FWOBM, and after it acts as ZYKLON, BLOOD TSUNAMI and others kept the tradition. But another very good name is coming this way: GALGEBERG, here with “Cerberus”, its first release (after two singles). Ruben Willem took care of the production, and worked on the recordings, mixing, mastering and sound engineering as well. The idea was to have a free and uncompromised sonority with an Old School Death Metal way, but that could be understandable as well.

Everything worked in this sense, being a very good result. And the visual side with Kim Diaz Holm (artwork) Peter Vegem (the trio’s singer/guitarist who created the logo) is very good, indeed. The trio’s members have passages on acts as BLOOD TSUNAMI, ABORYM, EMPEROR, THORNS, NATTEFROST, HELLRIDE and others, what means that they know what they’re doing. And here is a mix between Death Metal (with clear influences from Swedish Death Metal School, especially due the jigsaw guitar sound, what was usual for the Death Metal old days before the wave of Black Metal on Norway) with filthy aspects of Crust Punk (as the uncompromised feeling of the songs), with very good technical outfit and doses of energy and weight. It’s a great release, indeed.

“Epicurean Paradox” (very good technical parts with Crust Punk traces), “Unparalleled Suffering”, “Ode to O’Connor” (a tribute to Sinéad O’Connor), “Prelude to Genocide”, “Kleptocrat Infestation” and “Hordes of Necrovores” are songs that can reduce your bones to dust, but all of them are rich in very good instrumental arrangements, very good vocals and everything working in a very high level of quality. Be welcome, GALGEBERG, and after “Cerberus”, a full-length is expected!
