The Determinism Of Essence In Matter

Forever Falling

This was an excellent album, full of doomsday prophecies and about as much pain and suffering that you could expect to put someone through and not end them. With each passing note, the feelings deepen, until total body and mind numbness is all that is left.

From Bandcamp, “FOREVER FALLING, Italian-American duo, created a true masterpiece of heavy and funereal Doom Metal that is the most perfect representation of human pain. "The Determinism Of Essence In Matter" features six long songs that take you back in time, towards a dark and visceral Doom Metal, meeting a modern and melodic structure thanks to the composition and arrangement work that the band has done. The band's sophomore album is a triumph of melancholy, an austere image of the solitude and the grief of an abandoned heart, a masterclass display of a genre that drags you into remote abysses without mercy.”

The album has six songs, and “Leave Me the Stars” is first. The music moves slowly, the sound is depressing and hopeless, and the vocals are deeply guttural. The twin guitar harmonies also drip with saddened shades of grey, and this funeral is overdue…his body is decomposing, “The Touch of Ice” is the title in a nutshell…a sterile, frigid sound, that is reminiscent of a landscape that is frozen in every direction you look. You realize you are dead, and your soul is doomed to wander here forever, and the vocals reflect the deep pain of that realization. “September Song” is an interesting title. Living in the Northeast, September has always been a sign of two things, the end of summer and the arrival of fall. It is both exciting and depressing at the same time, because it means winter is near. This is the same feeling I get when listening to this song.

“The Wind of Remembrance” uses some clean guitar tones, spoken words, and light orchestration to tell its take of woe. The stark contrast with the death elements is sharp, and when the song turns dark, take cover. “It Is Absence” has vocals that stretch out the misery and pain for weeks, even months. They are sort of like an Ent (JRR Tolkien) telling you a story of their kin slowly being killed off, and you can feel their pain. “To You…” is the final song, almost as if it were the last words you get to speak to your love. You pour out your desperation and your torture, and you plead for one final chance, only to later realize that in your clouded grief, they passed away some time ago.

This was an excellent album, full of doomsday prophecies and about as much pain and suffering that you could expect to put someone through and not end them. With each passing note, the feelings deepen, until total body and mind numbness is all that is left.
