Diabolical Bloodlust

If you need a dose of Finnish classic Black Metal, this release is for you!
May 22, 2025

Finnish Black Metal has a long history, with roots in BEHERIT, ARCHGOAT, IMPALED NAZARENE, BARATHRUM and some others who shaped the genre and gave to it what one can call as ‘Finnish Black Metal DNA’. And since the 90s to this day, when a band is from Finland and plays Black Metal, the tendency of the fans is to expect great things from it. And be sure: “Diabolical Bloodlust”, the third - and latest - full length of FLAGG can fulfill many expectations. Typically Finnish, the essence of the band’s musical work is a form of classic Black Metal from the 90s. In other words, it’s aggressive, nasty and primitive, fast and with intense blast beat, but adorned with very good rhythmic shifts and a strong - yet subjective - melodic sense.

But even being so traditional, the band’s music is really charming, filled with excellent morbid ambiences (taste “Morningstar Rising” to hear such thing), and sounds alive, aggressive and with an honesty feeling that fills all the songs. As usual for Finnish Black Metal acts, even with those lo-fi elements from the past, the sonority is strong and allows the hearers to access the ‘core’ of the songs without problems. It’s funeral, aggressive and sharp, but defined. And the simple - yet efficient - artwork of the cover states with what kind of release one is dealing with. As guest, here is Krzysztof Klingbein (drummer of DEATHSPAWN, DISSENTOR, THE ZOEA and TOTENMESSE, and who already played live shows with VADER, HATE, BELPHEGOR and others) as guest on the drums

No words are needed to express how “Diabolical Bloodlust” sounds good to a Black metal fan, and “Storming the Gates”, “Morningstar Rising”, “Diabolical Bloodlust”, “The Book of Death”, “Throne Regained”, “Call of Darkness”, “In Famine and in Pestilence” and “Omega Dawn” show evidences that the band can become greater in the worldwide Black Metal scene due its intense and catching riffing, thunderous bass guitar and drums rhythms, funereal synths and animalesque shrieks.

“Diabolical Bloodlust” is that kind of release that every Black Metal fan must hear (and must have), so praise FLAGG for this darkened creation.
