FIVE FINGER DEATH PUNCH is an American Heavy Metal band from Las Vegas/Los Angeles. FIVE FINGER DEATH PUNCH were founded in 2006, and have currently just released their 6th album as of September 4th, 2015. The sixth album from the band titled "Got Your Six" is out September 4th, 2015 via Prospect Park Records and Seven Eleven Music.
Upon a listen, FIVE FINGER DEATH PUNCH's latest release is unmistakably FIVE FINGER DEATH PUNCH. Ivan's vocals are loud, growling, angry, and completely pissed as usual. Zoltan Bathory & Jason Hook have their usual bad-ass dueling guitars with massive riffs that bring the entire band to life. Chris Kael's bass is like something of a small earthquake in the background. The sound is finished off by Jeremy Spencer's punishing drumbeats that could crush the skulls of humans and animals alike. It's all well and good. It's the sound FIVE FINGER DEATH PUNCH were able to cement on their 2007 debut album "Way Of The Fist". It's a sound that has really divided the Heavy Metal world. Some people have loved FIVE FINGER DEATH PUNCH and others hate them. There seems to often be no middle ground with this band.
Having said that, "Got Your Six" will please the "traditional, longtime" fans that have been with the band since their first days. Tracks like "Got Your Six", "Ain't My Last Dance", & "Boots And Blood" are typical offerings from Ivan Moody and company. Short, quick, to-the-point songs all between 3-4 minutes in length, with a plethora of "fuck"-bombs dropped throughout. Ivan's vocals are angry, ground-shaking, and world-shattering as they have been since the inception, and the music is heavy, loud, and angry. Other tracks mix in more melody and harmony into the mix. Tracks such as the introductions to "My Nemesis" and "Meet My Maker". It proves that despite the heavy, angry music that at the same time there is musical talent and real singing ability within the band for anyone who may have doubted such.
While the typical FIVE FINGER DEATH PUNCH bases have been covered with "Got Your Six" it may disappoint some others expecting something more from the band. This album plays it pretty safe, without really taking a lot of new risks. The band may feel like it is doing the same thing over a sixth time to some listeners. Fans of the band's classical, traditional sound will not be disappointed, but overall FIVE FINGER DEATH PUNCH have played it decidedly "safe" with a release logging in with 14 tracks totaling just over 41 minutes of run time. While the loyal fans will likely stick by there will likely not necessarily be legions of new fans knocking down the band's door to get tickets. Doing something new and exploring music a little more would make the band more interesting, and something to possibly attract new listeners in the future, however, as a fan of FIVE FINGER DEATH PUNCH from day one very few people in our camp will be disappointed!
