Until the Heat Dies

Fire Action

Wow, whata great surprise is heard on this Finnish quartet first full-lenght!
December 27, 2024

Acts as HANOI ROCKS (one pioneer), STRATOVARIUS, BEHERIT, IMPALED NAZARENE, SENTENCED, AMORPHIS and some others helped to call attention to Finnish Metal scene. And during the 90s, a revolution happened, because an invasion of bands of many different Metal genres came, and today, the name of Finland is side by side with Sweden, Norway, Germany and others when one speaks about world’s strongest Metal scenes. And to put the doors down is the quartet FIRE ACTION. Their first full-length, “Until the Heat Dies” is a true Metal battering ram! Panu Pentikäinen took the helmet as producer at Pulu Studio, Helsinki, Finland. The sonority can be called ‘huge’ because its heavy and clean, defined and with a fine choice for the instrumental tunes (all of them are in a classic Metal way, but with a very good and updated outfit).

The most important thing of all on sonority: it fits on the songs and makes them gain life. The quartet stays away of many musical revolutions that happened to Metal on Finland, because they work on a path that is based on traditional Heavy Metal on the Finnish way, but allowing accessible melodies and elements inherited from Hard Rock and even from AOR enter their music (pay attention to the chorus and melodies of “Hard Days, Long Nights” to have a clear idea of what these words mean). Obviously references from 80s Hard ‘n’ Heavy acts are heard on their music, but they do things in agreement with their own will, creating a strong personality. And even without reinventing things, they created an amazing album, and states their names as a driving force into Finnish scene.

The songs depict that they worked hard to sharp the songs shown on “Until the Heat Dies”, and it’s impossible to not give them applause while hearing to songs as “Storm of Memories” (great melodies and a catchy chorus, and what great and charming vocals and backing vocals), “No Drone Zone” (a melodic song with excellent arrangements, another hooking chorus and amazing ‘van halenian’ guitar riffs, leads and arrangements), “Hard Days, Long Nights” (it’s impossible to not be hooked by such charming melodies adorned with fine keyboards’ parts), “Survive” (the contrasts between intense melodic moments and introspective parts is amazing, demanding a lot of bass guitar and drums on the rhythms), “Under the Gun” (another fine mix between melodies and weight in the vein of the 80s), “Dark Ages” (the elegant appeal inherited of accessible ways into Hard Rock and Heavy Metal is clear, and it’s impossible to not sing the chorus along with the band), “13 Arrows” and “Incitement of Insurrection” (the first works as an intro to the second, and some traits of Power Metal can be heard, specially due the double bass parts of the drums, the guitar duets and the QUEEN-like backing vocals), and as a mandatory homework, you all must to hear to “Until the Heat Dies”, “Curse the Day” and “Midnight Avenue” as well, because all the experience they gathered since 2012 (when the band begins its activities) - releasing EPs and Singles, and touring - earned them the ability to create a true masterpiece!

Yes, “Until the Heat Dies” is a masterpiece, and shows that the first full-length of FIRE ACTION is one of the best releases of the year! Listen and pay respects!
