Fides Inversa - Historia Nocturna album cover

FIDES INVERSA is a Black Metal band from the city of Rome, Italy - the band has started its career back in 2009 and since them they have released a few records, their newest "Historia Nocturna" being their third full-length and the first with their new singer Wraath that joined the band this year and that's what we are going to talk about.

The opening track from the album is "Intro" and it starts progressively with some guitar noises and a background sound at some parts of the song, some voices and a dark atmosphere that created a nice ambiance for what is about to come. "A Wanderer's Call and Orison" starts with fast guitar riffs that reminded me of some Viking Metal at some points and I liked it. The vocals are good, the kitchen between bass and drums are awesome! I really liked the ambiance from that song. There is a very intense part where the guitar solo came in. Such a nice song.

"Transcendental Lawlessness" starts out more directly with a guitar work that reminded more of the traditional Black Metal practiced by the Norwegians up North. I liked how that song has different dynamics and the vocals alternate from low growling to higher tones, which gave the song more options. "The Visit" starts out as fast as it could be, with all their energy coming out from the notes that compose that song and then, there is a part with more cadency and it helped creating a very good atmosphere, not only in the song, but in the album as well. We can hear some different vocals as well, instead of only the growling vocals.

"I Glance You with a Touch, I Touch You with a Gaze" starts out the same way the others did, with all the aggressive they have and a lot of cold guitar riffs that will transport you to a forest somewhere up North. They are a few parts here that reminded me of Ambient Black Metal and I liked it. "Syzygy" starts with a guitar noise and a nice percussion that slowly grows into you as the song progresses with very tense guitar lines. By far this is the most different song in the whole record and we can even hear a little bit of clean vocals and it is a very inspiring song... I felt like they were invoking someone.

"I Am the Iconoclams" is the last song from their album and It starts out with all the characteristics that a Black Metal band need: pure hate, aggressiveness, coldness and chaotic instrumentation followed by massive vocals. The song turns into some Ambient Black Metal and things get a little bit softer, but still dark and evil. It was a great way to end a cool material.

FIDES INVERSA have written and released a great Black Metal album with Folk influences at some points in the guitar riffs. It is a very nice record and I believe that most of the fans of the genre are going to love it!
