Glamdemic
FerreTT
In the early days of the 80s, there was a strong opposition of Metal fans related to traditional Heavy Metal and Thrash Metal to Glam Metal fans and bands, causing a division into the scene. It was a sad time, indeed, because many of those radicals were, in reality, fans of the same bands the Glam Metal bands were influenced by, and fans of Glam Metal as well, so they’re all posers on those days (there’s a video of SLAYER playing MÖTLEY CRÜE’s “Looks that Kill” on the 80s) that didn’t understood what Metal is really about. And to show how nasty and a threat a Glam Metal can be, from New York comes FERRETT, here with “Glamdemic”.
The hands Dan Swanö on the mixing and mastering (done at Unisound Studio) shows that the band wanted something aggressive and nasty to the album’s sonority. And one can have in mind that it sounds clean and organic at the same time, but with a clean touch to have an abrasive way similar to older classics of Glam Metal as “Shout at the Devil”. And what a great and fun artwork created by Roberto Toderico for the album! Glam Metal, Sleaze Rock or any other label one can chose isn’t fair to what the band plays. In that’s similar to MÖTLEY CRÜE, STEEL PANTHER, W.A.S.P., RATT and others, they align weight and aggressiveness with hooking melodies and catching choruses and energy inherited from acts as AC/DC and MOTÖRHEAD. Of course such formula is already known, but who care things are truly good? FERRETT is about sex, drugs and Rock ‘n’ Roll, and it’s what this album offers!
It’s hard to choose better moments because from “Let It All Hang Out on a Saturday Night” (a might melodic live hymn, with excellent guitars), passing by “Don’t Tell Jen” (with a better melodic shape here, with fien nasty tunes of the vocals), “Glamdemic” (a might way down Glam Metal song with slow rhythms and thunderous playing from bass guitar and drums), “Hat Trick” (wow, what excellent melodies and chorus!), “It’s Not Hard to Let Go” (a charming ballad with tongs of energy and backing vocals), “Drinking Beers”, “Amateur Night”, “Amber Alert”… Let’s be honest: you must hear these ones and “Farmer Vincent’s Fritters” and “House of the Holy (Food for the Gods)” as well, because this album isn’t something created just to earn money, but’s honest and full of that old and good energy that’s good for the heart.
Yes, pay respect to “Glamdemic” now, and become a fan of FERRETT. This won’t hurt you (and it’s good for the heart as well).
