Silicon Tea

Evil Scarecrow

Did you know that submarines can have feelings too? Well, if you listen to opener “Nuclear Fallout Machine Sentience” the band will set you straight on that one

When a band Is capable of making their music feel and sound good in all directions, they are good musicians. If they also have the ability to write the lyrics in such a way that you will smile regularly, be amazed at times and have real belly laughs every few minutes, they are a rare entity. Well, that is what you get when you start playing “Silicon Tea” by EVIL SCARECROW. They originate from Nottingham in England and have been making people bang their heads and laugh simultaneously since 2002. This is the sixth album to date, although I have to say that the 2004 debut album “Crowcifiction” was also released in 2006. Both by themselves, and with the same songs.

As this is my first round of laughs with EVIL SCARECROW, I can’t comment on how the rest of their material sounds, but I do know that I really like what they do on “Silicon Tea”. These guys know how to write music to a bloody high standard, which makes them remind me of ZIMMERS HOLE. The differences between the two being that EVIL SCARECROW uses pure British Humour, and they don’t go as mellow or as Extremely Heavy as ZIMMERS HOLE does. But you will agree with me when I say that a brilliant and very entertaining song like “Wrath Of The Sexbots” could have easily been added to any RAMMSTEIN album, while closer “The Future Machine” is a perfect Glam Metal anthem. The fact that Dr Hell can do all the voices with ease, is impressive.

Did you know that submarines can have feelings too? Well, if you listen to opener “Nuclear Fallout Machine Sentience” the band will set you straight on that one. And have you ever heard a band make a song about being stuck in the mud, a situation that is embarrassing enough, but gets even worse when you realise that you desperately have to go to the loo. Well, that is the content of “Welly In The Mud”. That kind of humorous approach will undoubtedly remind you of the way SPINAL TAP uses the language in order to make you laugh. But what stands out most for me is the bloody good quality of every song on “Silicon Tea”. It is what makes EVIL SCARECROW stand out, makes them a cut above the rest. I’m not going to rate them as the best, but I will award them very good, as that is what they certainly deserve.
