Mediterraneo
Even Flow
From their EPK, "The Sardinian masters of Power Progressive Metal EVEN FLOW return with a new EP entitled "Mediterraneo" on October 3rd, 2022! "Mediterraneo", adorned with a beautiful artwork by Mythrid Art, is a concentrate of energy, power and melody, characterized by the unique style of the band since its inception in the late 1990s. It will take the listener on a journey through a unique, engaging and fascinating musical dimension. The EP contains five songs.
"Ocean Lies" is the first. It's mid-tempo rocker with raucous energy. Marco has some serious pipes, and is able to negotiate in the higher ranges quite easily. The sound is indeed a mix between Progressive and Power Metal elements, and the piano notes are a nice addition. "Ray of Light" is another mid-tempo song with a good balance between might, power, and wondrous melodies. Marco's vocal prowess is so strong that his voice has become the focal point of the EP. There are also some Progressive elements in the form of expert meter shifting and heavy accents to distinguish the dynamic sounds.
"Leaves" is a shorter song that begins with poignant vocals and a sweet tickling of the ivories. The pianist is quite talented, putting on a display of melodies that are catchy and coy. "Revelation Day" is another short song that features some more bombastic elements and positive sounds. Drums gallop behind a thick wall of melodies and vocal harmonies in the chorus, and the Pop sound reminds me of the more melodic side of STYX. The title track closes the album. It rides forward like a fair-haired rider galloping over the plains, with his banners held high. Much of the inherent power comes within the harmonies of the chorus, but don't count out the bridge before the guitar solo.
Overall, this was a promising EP that I wanted to hear more of. The five songs are very well put together, but the key to the EP is the vocals of Marco Pastorino. A voice like his isn't something that is very common out there, and his vocals allow the album to go soaring forward above many of the recent efforts of their peers. I must shamefully admit that I have never heard of this band before, but they have a new fan, as well as someone who will look for future releases with eagerness.
