Here we have "Ravening Iron", the new release from American power metal act ETERNAL CHAMPION, which was unleased unto the world in November 2020. After the bands last release this is one their legions of fans have been waiting for. Kicking things off we have the album opening track "A Face in the Glare". This one opens with the sound and atmosphere of a medieval battle waiting to happen. Then the band comes thundering in with plenty of riffs and guitar solo's. we then also get a guitar solo about half way through that really commands the song. It is a strong opener.

Next up we get the title track Ravening Iron". This one has a much more epic feel to it. You can really hear that crushing bass guitar powering through in this one as the drums are really working overtime to keep the song moving along. A bit of an unusual tone for the lead into the guitar solo, its like they must have had a flange or phaser pedal on the guitar, but it then leads into a much more traditional solo. As the song comes to a close we get this war chant that will have your fists in the air.

"War at the Edge of the End" starts off with this big sound coming right in. here we get some great use from that twin guitar attack. The song is complete with a sing along chorus and a guitar solo that just takes over, its not a flashy type of solo but it is very effective in its delivery. After that one there is "Coward's Keep" which gives us an almost gentle twin guitar harmony in its intro. Once that is done the band then comes in and hits you like a ton of bricks. We also get a guitar battle going on before the middle section with two guitars both playing off of one another. This then leads us to a section after which sounds almost like a battle march that then appears again for the outro. As the song fades out we get a really nice folk guitar melody to end the song.

"The Godblade" is a full synth track that sounds a little uplifting but has a sense of gloom underneath it all. This track feels like a set up for the final show down. We are then set up nicely for ETERNAL CHAMPION's final assault with "Banner's of Arhai". The band just stomps their way in with lead guitar work leading the way. The riffs got this evil feel to them and a face melting guitar solo that really shows what this band are all about as the drums lead us out.

With "Ravening Iron", ETERNAL CHAMPION shows themselves as a very riff heavy type of band. The album seems to have this old school power metal sound to it. At times you can here elements of MANOWAR and bands from the NWOBHM era. But "Ravening Iron" is filled with plenty of crushing riffs and thunderous rhythms to make this a fun album to enjoy.
